... 5-mW laser diode at 200 MHz. Photons from the source are guided through a 6.0-mm-diameter fiber optic cable into a 60-liter tank containing a turbid medium called Intralipid.§ The scattering medium is essentially infinite and is homogeneous except for the small spherical inhomogeneity, a black spher ...

Isotropic Diffraction-Limited Focusing Using a Single Objective Lens

... imaging, lithography, data storage, or particle manipulation, the problem of focusing light beams into subwavelength volumes has become a major challenge. Numerous studies have been devoted to the development of novel lenses [1,2] in conjunction (or not) with beam shaping [3–6] that permit one to re ...

... Astronomers use the Kelvin temperature scale. The “degrees” are the same as the Celsius system, only with 273 added, and they aren’t called degrees (just K). The are no negative numbers – “absolute” zero is the coldest possible temperature. CLM - Fall 2014 ...

Probing charge fluctuator correlations using quantum dot pairs Purohit, er, tt
Probing charge fluctuator correlations using quantum dot pairs Purohit, er, tt

... A key challenge in assessing the feasibility of any quantum computer realization is to develop an understanding of decoherence in the system. Although a great deal of work has been done on how individual qubits suffer decoherence, less is known about how correlated noise across multiple qubits arise ...

Chapter 8 Wave Optics

... Generally it is hard to obtain the coherent condition with the common light source. But we will assume some conditions: (1) The wave has fixed wavelength. The incident beam should be monochromatic (单色的). (2) The secondary wavelets that originate from the two small openings are in phase at their poin ...

Nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS) scale down the dimensions.7,8 In particular, NEMS employing electrostatic forces have been developed.9,10 For parallel-plate electrostatic actuators, the pull-in instabi ...

Quasi Light Fields: A Model of Coherent Image Formation
Quasi Light Fields: A Model of Coherent Image Formation

... The light field represents radiance as a function of position and direction, thereby decomposing optical power flow along rays. The light field is an important tool in incoherent imaging applications, where it is used to dynamically generate different viewpoints for computer graphics rendering, comp ...

Increasing the blue-shift of a supercontinuum by

... The first experiments with supercontinuum generation in a photonic crystal fibre (PCF) demonstrated impressive spectra spanning from 400 nm to 1500 nm using 100 fs pulses [1]. Often, one does not require the use of the entire supercontinuum bandwidth, or the spectrum needs to be concentrated in a sp ...

Demonstration of a multiwave coherent holographic beam combiner in a polymeric substrate

... In recent years there has been a keen interest in producing high-power lasers by using the method of beam combination. For some applications, such as a Doppler laser radar, it is necessary to ensure that the combined output is spectrally narrow. This requirement can be met by use of a coherent beam ...

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy

Ultrafast laser spectroscopy is a spectroscopic technique that uses ultrashort pulse lasers for the study of dynamics on extremely short time scales (attoseconds to nanoseconds). Different methods are used to examine dynamics of charge carriers, atoms and molecules. Many different procedures have been developed spanning different time scales and photon energy ranges; some common methods are listed below.
