... (DBM)3(phen) (Ln¼ Eu and Gd, DBM ¼dimenzoylmethanto and phen ¼1,10-phenanthroine) were characterized in detail. A pentanuclear Eu(III) cluster with the formula, Eu5(DBM)10(OH)5, was obtained from Cs[Eu(DBM)4] in ethanol, while from Cs[Gd(DBM)4] in acetonitrile, a one-dimensional polymeric Gd(III) as ...

... Molecular Orbital Theory • The valence bond model is easy to visualize, and works well for most molecules, but it does not describe magnetic and spectral properties well. A more complex model must be used to explain these phenomena. • In Molecular Orbital (MO) theory, electrons occupy molecular orbi ...

... cobaltocene would have more charge than the ferrocene molecule. This is due to higher dipole moment and lower HOMO-LUMO energy gap indicated that the molecule is better reactive. This indicates that cobaltocene is more polar so that it will react with polar solvents like water. Since the separation ...

Development of a Tm3+-doped Fluoride Glass - DORAS

... The development of a fluoride fibre laser for hydrocarbon gas sensing is discussed. The use of a fibre laser as a source for optical sensing has many advantages including small size and ease of adaptability into industrial systems. The fibre laser constructed in this work has an operating wavelength ...

Switching terahertz waves with gate-controlled active graphene metamaterials LETTERS *

... The extraordinary electronic properties of graphene provided the main thrusts for the rapid advance of graphene electronics1 . In photonics, the gate-controllable electronic properties of graphene provide a route to efficiently manipulate the interaction of photons with graphene, which has recently ...

... Adaptive optics will play a central role in all ELT projects. For diffraction limited imaging of point-like sources, the sensitivity grows with aperture as D4, so enormous gains can be realized by ELTs only with the use of AO. Equally important, ELTs can achieve resolution far greater than that of s ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
