... Comments and Conclusion The MODAL software described by Créidhe O’Sullivan et al. in this paper is very interesting to someone who works in the submillimeter or terahertz fields. Working in the Steward Observatory Radio Astronomy Lab, I spend a significant amount of time designing optical systems in ...

... The excitation of the MC by the SAW leads to small changes in the optical reflectivity [dashed line in Fig. 3(a)], which can be better observed in the difference spectrum in the lower part of the figure. These spectra were obtained for light polarized along y (cf. inset) under excitation of mode M2 ...

Hydrogen and the Central Force Problem

... The study of the hydrogen spectral lines was a major influence on the development of quantum physics. Schrödinger quantum mechanics as we’ve developed it thus far, very accurately predicts all the energies of the electron orbitals and the location of all of the hydrogen spectral lines. Interestingly ...

Such photons can even directly be ‘‘seen’’ as individual spots, when using a camera with a very sensitive film imaging a very dim ...

We should note that the time-dependence of the optically-induced coherent spin generation and subsequent relaxation in a single quantum dot, averaged over a large number of successive measurements is equivalent to the corresponding spin dynamics for an ensemble of quantum ...

... The Letter by Deng et al. [1] presents an analytic theoretical description of matter-wave superradiance [2] which claims to go beyond previous theoretical frameworks. I show here that the theory presented in this Letter is not a description of superradiance per se, but rather an elegant perturbative ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
