... Sun, and discuss the difficulties in reconciling the observed uniform rotation of the radiative interior with purely hydrodynamical theories. Following Gough & McIntyre (1998) we conclude that a global-scale interior magnetic field provides the most plausible explanation for the observed uniform rot ...

In addition, microscopes were used more and more to increase knowledge also in other fields, such as geology, or even physi ...

Digital Signal Processing for Optical Coherent Communication

... Since 2007, coherent detection has been considered as the key technology of optical communication systems [2]. Major challenge for future optical transmission systems is the strict frequency band usage limitation, which is measured by spectral efficiency (SE). In order to improve spectral efficiency ...

... In many light sources, the polarization of the light varies in a random manner and these sources are said to be randomly polarized. Other sources, such as the output of many lasers, are linearly polarized. When light is linearly polarized, the electric field vector maintains a constant orientation i ...

... The hierarchical model of structure formation predicts that clusters of galaxies form by subsequent merging of smaller structures. A consistent amount of energy (∼1063 −1064 erg) is released in the intra cluster medium (ICM) as result of such merger events. Cosmological numerical simulations have sh ...

... ROA spectra are examined with an emphasis on solvent effects, over the amino acid tryptophan, which gives rise to characteristic side chain bands in ROA spectra, to α- and 310 -helices. The final example is rat metallothionein, which contains turns as the only secondary structure elements. This prot ...

... There are broadly speaking two categories of device used as light sources: lightemitting diodes (LEDs) and laser diodes. In general terms, LEDs are cheaper and easier to use, but have inferior performance compared to laser diodes. The output from an LED differs from that of a laser diode as it is po ...

Magnetic circular dichroism

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) is the differential absorption of left and right circularly polarized (LCP and RCP) light, induced in a sample by a strong magnetic field oriented parallel to the direction of light propagation. MCD measurements can detect transitions which are too weak to be seen in conventional optical absorption spectra; they can also probe paramagnetic properties and the symmetry of the electronic levels of the studied systems, such as metal ion sites.
