... Introduction of a voltage transient on the high side of the loop causes element T1 to conduct. Momentary conduction of T1 allows current to flow from the positive terminal of the power supply through the THUM Adapter to the negative terminal of the power supply through T1. This creates a secondary c ...

... Electrical noise may appear on the mains and generates across the TRIAC fast voltage variations, as described in IEC 61000-4-4 standard. Fast voltage variations can create a gate current (IG), due to the junction capacitance between A2 and the gate, and could trigger the TRIAC. The maximum rate of r ...

I have a few questions: 1) Is the induced emf from the inductor, induced on itself or another wire going through it? 2) How is the voltage able to jump from 0 to some other value after the circuit switch has been opened to disconnect the battery? 3) Finally, I thought that the magnetic field could d ...

Opto-isolator

In electronics, an opto-isolator, also called an optocoupler, photocoupler, or optical isolator, is a component that transfers electrical signals between two isolated circuits by using light. Opto-isolators prevent high voltages from affecting the system receiving the signal. Commercially available opto-isolators withstand input-to-output voltages up to 10 kV and voltage transients with speeds up to 10 kV/μs.A common type of opto-isolator consists of an LED and a phototransistor in the same opaque package. Other types of source-sensor combinations include LED-photodiode, LED-LASCR, and lamp-photoresistor pairs. Usually opto-isolators transfer digital (on-off) signals, but some techniques allow them to be used with analog signals.
