Extending the MFJ-927 to 160-Meters

... In the “Reviews” section of this website I reviewed the CG-3000, MFJ-927, and the SG230 auto-tuners specifically for use with the popular 43-foot vertical antenna. As discussed in that review only the SG-230 had enough internal inductance to tune the 43foot vertical on 160 meters, so I described an ...

Current Chopping a Simple Explanation, and Calculations to
Current Chopping a Simple Explanation, and Calculations to

... Current chopping is a term that came to our vocabulary with the advent of vacuum switching which was commercially started back in the 1950’s. Earlier switching means in air or oil are in terms of dielectric recovery rate relatively slow and as the main contacts would part the arc would go through s ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
