... voltage ripple due to bifurcation of inductor ripple current at duty cycles above 50%. The fixed amplitude of the slope compensation signal requires the inductor to be greater than a minimum value, depending on output voltage, in order to avoid sub−harmonic oscillations. For 3.3 V and 5 V output vol ...

... (5) R1 = switching voltage * HFE / load current In practice, we want to allow for a little extra load current (at the expense of a little extra base current), just in case, so we make it: (6) R1 = switching voltage * HFE / (1.3 * load current) R2 is not that important here; it has to do with stabili ...

... Microsemi also offer a reference design for the ARF475FL at 128MHz [6]. Using this as a starting point Roke designed an amplifier more fitting for our purpose. Several changes to the reference design were enabled. Our requirement was for fast, short pulses, at low duty cycle. We reasoned that the ga ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
