... confidence interval for a population mean, a standard deviation (σ) must be known. Since it is not reasonable to know the standard deviation of the population, the standard deviation of the sample, s, is used in its place. When William Gossett investigated the shape of the sampling distribution of t ...

But you only got a small sample of 20 patients and don’t have any reference about the population standard deviation. You know that your sample average waiting time is 32 and their stan ...

... There is no way to check independence of the data, but we should think about whether the assumption is reasonable. Randomization Condition: The data arise from a random sample or suitably randomized experiment. 10% Condition: The sample size should be no more than 10% of the population. For means ou ...

Resampling (statistics)

In statistics, resampling is any of a variety of methods for doing one of the following: Estimating the precision of sample statistics (medians, variances, percentiles) by using subsets of available data (jackknifing) or drawing randomly with replacement from a set of data points (bootstrapping) Exchanging labels on data points when performing significance tests (permutation tests, also called exact tests, randomization tests, or re-randomization tests) Validating models by using random subsets (bootstrapping, cross validation)Common resampling techniques include bootstrapping, jackknifing and permutation tests.
