... threshold is set at 6.8 V, so we will expect to see hiccupping until the capacitor is charged to that voltage. As we have seen previously, charging with a constant current slows voltage rise, and if large enough it is very possible that the voltage will not reach 6.8 V in 20 ms! To reduce this issue ...

... Resistance R is the ratio of the voltage difference to the current for a given portion of a circuit, and is in units of ohms: 1 ohm = 1  = 1 V / A. The resistance of a wire is proportional to the length of the wire, inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the wire, and inversely propo ...

... Why do we have resistors in series or parallel? The IEEE has established a standard for values of resistor. On occasions in very specialized circuits, a non-standard value is required. To have just a few of these resistors manufactured the cost would be prohibitive. Therefore different values of res ...

... The current amplifier with a gain of 1600 boosts the current II from approx. 470 µA maximum to approx. 750 mA maximum. The output stage consists of an NPN transistor with its emitter on power GND and collector on pin Q. The current control insures that the output stage only conducts defined currents ...

... You would expect this circuit to work as follows. Since the current can go either through the coiled wire or through the bulb, you would expect most of the current to go through the coiled wire because the wire offers no resistance while the bulb offers resistance. So the bulb should glow very dimpl ...

Power MOSFET

A power MOSFET is a specific type of metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) designed to handle significant power levels.Compared to the other power semiconductor devices, for example an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) or a thyristor, its main advantages are high commutation speed and good efficiency at low voltages. It shares with the IGBT an isolated gate that makes it easy to drive. They can be subject to low gain, sometimes to degree that the gate voltage needs to be higher than the voltage under control. The design of power MOSFETs was made possible by the evolution of CMOS technology, developed for manufacturing integrated circuits in the late 1970s. The power MOSFET shares its operating principle with its low-power counterpart, the lateral MOSFET.The power MOSFET is the most widely used low-voltage (that is, less than 200 V) switch. It can be found in most power supplies, DC to DC converters, and low voltage motor controllers.
