... The circuit of Figure 3 shows the LTC1626 being used for board-level conversion of 5V to 3.3V at up to 0.6A. Although a linear regulator could also perform this function, it would result in an additional 1W of power loss. The high efficiency of the LTC1626 (Figure 4) reduces this loss to only 230mW. ...

... The voltage between the ends of an ideal conductor is zero regardless of the current flowing through the conductor. When two points in a ckt are connected together by an ideal conductor, we say that the points are shorted together. Another term for an ideal conductor is short ckt. All points in a ck ...

... Now that the equivalent resistance is known, the current through the battery can be determined using Ohm's law equation. In using the Ohm's law equation ( V = I • R) to determine the current in the circuit, it is important to use the battery voltage for V and the equivalent resistance for R. The cal ...

Power MOSFET

A power MOSFET is a specific type of metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) designed to handle significant power levels.Compared to the other power semiconductor devices, for example an insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) or a thyristor, its main advantages are high commutation speed and good efficiency at low voltages. It shares with the IGBT an isolated gate that makes it easy to drive. They can be subject to low gain, sometimes to degree that the gate voltage needs to be higher than the voltage under control. The design of power MOSFETs was made possible by the evolution of CMOS technology, developed for manufacturing integrated circuits in the late 1970s. The power MOSFET shares its operating principle with its low-power counterpart, the lateral MOSFET.The power MOSFET is the most widely used low-voltage (that is, less than 200 V) switch. It can be found in most power supplies, DC to DC converters, and low voltage motor controllers.
