Electric current is measured in units called amps

... Electric current is measured in units called amps (A). The electric current is not used up by the components in a circuit but it transfers energy from the voltage source to the various components making up the circuit. Electric current is measured using an ammeter. ...

The same is true for an SCR, but in addition, the gate must have a high voltage applied in order for the SCR to conduct. Once the diode starts to conduct, the gate voltage can go low and the diode will ...

Resonance In both series and parallel RLC circuits, resonance

... At resonance, since the capacitor and inductor currents are 180° out of phase, the net circuit current is zero. This means that theoretically no current is supplied to the circuit at resonance. Also, since Z = V/I, the impedance seen by the source is theoretically infinite. Practical tank circuit In ...

Circuit breaker

A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electrical switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to detect a fault condition and interrupt current flow. Unlike a fuse, which operates once and then must be replaced, a circuit breaker can be reset (either manually or automatically) to resume normal operation. Circuit breakers are made in varying sizes, from small devices that protect an individual household appliance up to large switchgear designed to protect high voltage circuits feeding an entire city.
