... After introducing an effective field theory for processes with a typical energy less the Planck mass, i.e. with |q 2 | MP2 1038 GeV2 , by Weinberg [27], the effective theory for gravity can been modeled in a manner analogous with that of Chiral Perturbation Theory [28] for QCD. This way to look at ...

... Quantum memories (QM) for light, which allow a coherent and reversible transfer of quantum information between light and long lived matter quantum bits, are crucial devices in quantum information science [1]. In particular they enable to interface stationary quantum bits (encoded in atom-like system ...

Much of the excitement has certainly been generated by the discovery of Bell's inequality [12], a simple mathematical statement about an observable quantity which can be deduced directly from Einstein locality and which is violated by quantum mechanics. Even though the first experimental investigati ...

... Relations between two physical theories can be deduced from an examination of their domain of validity. In particular, let DA and DB denote the domains of validity of theories A and B, respectively. Now, if DA ⊂ DB and DA 6= DB then one finds that theory B takes a higher hierarchical rank than theor ...

... Let us consider a single CNT of length L that is electronically contacted and carries a current I(̂ t). It generates a magnetic field that interacts with the atomic spin. Similar coupling has been considered27 between a vibrating nanomagnet and a BEC. The CNT is aligned with the z axis (see Figure 1 ...

Orchestrated objective reduction

Orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR) is a hypothesis that consciousness in the brain originates from processes inside neurons, rather than from connections between neurons as in the conventional view. The mechanism is held to be a quantum physics process called objective reduction which is orchestrated by molecular structures called microtubules. The hypothesis, which was put forward in the early 1990s by theoretical physicist Roger Penrose and anaesthesiologist and psychologist Stuart Hameroff, has so far been rejected by the majority of cognitive scientists.
