electron transport in quantum dots. - Leo Kouwenhoven
electron transport in quantum dots. - Leo Kouwenhoven

... One type of artificially fabricated device is a quantum dot. Typically, quantum dots are small regions defined in a semiconductor material with a size of order 100 nm [1]. Since the first studies in the late eighties, the physics of quantum dots has been a very active and fruitful research topic. Th ...

... energies. Extensions to include excited states as in time-dependent densityfunctional theory, though very promising [269–271], are not fully developed up to date. To improve DFT-based models several approaches were suggested, including inelastic electron-vibron interaction [121, 126, 272–279] or Cou ...

Genuine Fortuitousness

... It has become cliché in contemporary theoretical physics or philosophy of physics to begin one’s paper by noting that physics today is in a state of turmoil; however, the reason that such commentary on the state of modern physics is so common is that, in this case, the commentary happens to be corr ...
Quantum Information with Fermionic Gaussian States - Max
Quantum Information with Fermionic Gaussian States - Max

... In this Thesis we study finite-dimensional fermionic Gaussian states and channels. In physics, Gaussian approximation is a frequently used tool for solving many-body problems. Gaussian approximation relies on describing system fully in terms of two-point correlation functions. This means that all th ...

Orchestrated objective reduction

Orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR) is a hypothesis that consciousness in the brain originates from processes inside neurons, rather than from connections between neurons as in the conventional view. The mechanism is held to be a quantum physics process called objective reduction which is orchestrated by molecular structures called microtubules. The hypothesis, which was put forward in the early 1990s by theoretical physicist Roger Penrose and anaesthesiologist and psychologist Stuart Hameroff, has so far been rejected by the majority of cognitive scientists.
