... In recent years there has been great interest in the so-called AdS/CFT correspondence. It seems fair to say that the majority of works on this topic belong to the string theory framework. However, with a more limited scope than in this framework, in the context of Quantum Field Theory (QFT), also so ...

Topological quantum computation (TQC) is based on the storage and manipulation of information in the representation spaces of the braid group, which consist of quantum states of certain topological phases of matter [22]. The most important unitary braid group representations for TQC are the Jones re ...

... In D > 2, this term is not renormalizable. This means that the theory is strongly coupled at the Planck scale. If we try to compute scattering amplitudes using Feynman diagrams, we would find non-sensical, non-unitary answers for E & MP . The rules of effective field theory tell us that we must incl ...

This phenomenon, commonly referred to as decoherence or dephasing, is the subject of the second part of the thesis with the title “Decoherence by quantum telegraph noise”. We have stu ...

The Heisenberg representation, though it provides less intuitive insight, is of advantage when the evolution should be discussed for various initial conditions a(0). As long as relaxation is not considered both representations are only trivially different. ...

The Landau two-fluid model is the most successful hydrodynamical theory of superfluid helium, but by the nature of the scale separations it cannot give an adequate description of the processes involving vortex dynamics and interactions. Orchestrated objective reduction

Orchestrated objective reduction (Orch-OR) is a hypothesis that consciousness in the brain originates from processes inside neurons, rather than from connections between neurons as in the conventional view. The mechanism is held to be a quantum physics process called objective reduction which is orchestrated by molecular structures called microtubules. The hypothesis, which was put forward in the early 1990s by theoretical physicist Roger Penrose and anaesthesiologist and psychologist Stuart Hameroff, has so far been rejected by the majority of cognitive scientists.
