Science Solar System Project
Due 01-04-16
For this project you need to build a model of the solar system. Your model may be
constructed out of paper, clay, yarn, Styrofoam, toothpicks, etc. Use your imagination!
You must accurately represent the following celestial bodies, taking note of color, size
and distinguishing characteristics:
 The sun
 All 8 planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and
Neptune)
 Earth’s moon
You may represent the following:
 Asteroids, comets, meteors, etc.
All celestial bodies must be labeled. Your model needs to be an accurate
representation of the solar system. For example, the sun is the largest body in our solar
system, so it should be the biggest celestial body in your model. Jupiter is the largest
planet, so it should be represented that way on your model.
Grading:
 1~ model has the same characteristics of a “2” model but is EXTREMELY
creative and accurate.
 2~ model is an accurate representation of the solar system. You have labeled
everything and created a neat and interesting model.
 3~ model has some incorrect information, it may be messy, or you have forgotten
to label things.
 4~ model is inaccurate, not understandable and/or has obviously been thrown
together without much creativity or thought.
