AutoTrap - A software program that automatically applies trapping to film which is output by
imagesetters. Trapping is the precise relationship between two ink colors when they butt together
on a printed sheet. If no trap is added, a white gap may appear between colors. If too much trap is
added, a dark line will appear where the colors overlap.

A3-size paper. Paper that is 297 mm by 420 mm (11.69 inches by 16.54 inches).
A4-size paper. Paper that is 210 mm by 297 mm (8.27 inches by 11.69 inches). This is the
European standard letter-size paper.
A5-size paper. Paper that is 148 mm by 210 mm (5.83 inches by 8.27 inches).
Angle bar
Goniasma
In web-fed printing (printing on rolls of paper as
opposed to single sheets), an angle bar is a metal bar
that is used to turn paper between two components of
the press.
8-bit color = xroma ton 8 bit
In 8-bit color, each pixel has eight bits assigned to it, providing 256 colors or shades of gray,
as in a grayscale image.
24-bit color
Digital color model that uses eight bits each for the three additive colors red, green, blue. It
can reproduce 256 shades of each primary color. Same as true-color image. Generally refers
to 24-bit or better images. In 24 bit color, each pixel has 24 bits assigned to it, representing
16.7 million colors. 8-bits - or one byte - is assigned to each of the red, green, and blue
components of a pixel.
addressable resolution = megisti analysi
The maximum resolution of any device. The finite number of pixels that any imaging device is
capable of creating, manipulating or imaging.
AM (amplitude-modulated screening) =
An image screening method that uses halftones where dots vary in size but are located on a
regularly-spaced grid.
artifact = kilida, moire
In digital graphic applications, unwanted visual anomalies or defects generated by an input or
output device, or by a software operation, that degrade image quality. (see also "aliasing" and
"moiré pattern")
32 Bit Color
Digital image format that incorporates 256 shades in 8-bits for each of three color
channels (RGB) and includes a mask (alpha) channel with a possible 256 levels of
opacity.
Aberration = Apoklisi
The failure of a mirror or refracting surface or lens to produce exact, point-to-point
correspondence between an object and its image. One of several optical faults that can
cause a loss of sharpness.
Absolute White = Apolyto leuko
In theory, a material that perfectly reflects all light energy at every visible
wavelength. In practice, a solid white with known spectral data used as the "reference
white" for all measurements of absolute reflectance.
Actual Size = kanoniko mege8os eikonas
The size of an image when it was scanned (not enlarged or reduced in area or viewing
perspective).
Airbrush Printer = Ektypotis Aerografou
A large, digital-print machine (for printing billboards, etc.) that uses compressed air to
drive inks through the printhead. Now obsolete.
Alpha = Va8mos diaugeias
The degree of opacity of an image in computer graphics. Not the same as luminance.
Apparent Dot Area = Pyknotita koukkidas
The percentage of dot coverage in a specific area, as measured using a densitometer.
Apparent Dot Gain = Diafora pyknotitas koukkidas
The difference between the Apparent Dot Area of the film, as measured by a
transmission densitometer, and the Apparent Dot Area of the proof or printed sheet, as
measured with a reflection densitometer.
Art Print = kallitexniki ektyposi
Printing of original or reproductions of artwork with any number of methods.
Iris/Giclee/Inkjet, lithography, offset lithography, serigraphy being the major sources
for Art Print production.
