1. ____________________ Certain types of algae live inside reef-building coral. The algae
provide the coral with nutrients in return for protection.
2. ____________________ Barnacles attach themselves to a whale’s skin. The barnacles benefit
from constant movement of water past the swimming whale, which carries food particles to
them. The whale is not helped or harmed.
3. ____________________ An anglerfish has a body part that looks like a fishing lure, which it
uses to lure unsuspecting smaller fish close to its mouth. Then, it captures and eats the fish.
4. ____________________ Fleas live on the skin of a dog and bite it to feed on its blood. The
fleas benefit by having a host that provides a food source, while the dog is harmed.
5. ____________________ In a pasture, sheep and cattle make trails in grass that they trample,
and without realizing it, they kill the grass. The sheep and cattle are not affected because there is
plenty of other grass to feed on.
