Spelling / Word Roots
Each Week:
 Do all your work (2, 3, 4, 6) on the same sheet of paper.
 Do # 5 on separate sheet of paper.
 Staple them together with your worksheets, and turn in on Fri. to box 3.
1. Complete the worksheets.
2. IN CURSIVE - Write your 10 words in ABC order, write each word 3 times.
3. IN CURSIVE - Use each word in a separate sentence. Do not use sentences that
are on the worksheets.
Each sentence must:
 be well written
 use correct spelling and punctuation
 contain at least six words
 show that you understand the meaning of the spelling word.
4. Choose five words on your list. For each word, make as many new words as
possible using the same letters.
5. IN CURSIVE - With a partner, give each other a written practice test. Your test
will be given by reading the definition and you must write the correct word, spelled
correctly. Correct your paper. Partner should sign the test.
6. Find other words that have the same root. You may use other books, talk to family
members, or use the internet. Make a list of as many as you can find.
Do the following at the appropriate time during class. If you need more practice, take
the word list home to study on Thursday.
Monday # 1
Tuesday # 2
Wednesday # 3, 4
Thursday # 5
# 6 is worth extra points. Work on it all week and turn it in with the rest of the
assignment.
Friday – Test – The test will include the teacher reading the definition and you
writing the correct word, spelled correctly. You will also need to state what type
of word it is. You will also be given dictation sentences using the word. All the
words in the sentences and the punctuation must be written correctly.
Tests will be done in cursive and all words must be legible, or no credit will be
given.
