Unit 9 Review
Name _______________________
If you don't know an answer, use your notes or homework as wise students do.
1) What are the sides of an angle called?
_______________________
2) What do you call the point where the two sides of an angle meet? ___________________
3) What is the name of a segment that has its endpoints on a circle? __________________
4) A tangent line is _____________________________ to the radius that touches it .
5) Parallel lines are defined to be ________________________________________________
________________________________________________________________________.
6) Perpendicular lines are _____________________________________________________
______________________________________________________________________.
7) Draw a triangle with angles of 26° and 124°. Label the angles as you draw them.
Measure and label the 3rd angle.
What should be the sum of the measures of the angles of the triangle? __________
8) Draw a line perpendicular to line XY passing through X.
9) We will practice using the information you learned about angles and parallel lines.
Draw a line through X, so that new line XY is parallel to line AB. Label the angles as you measure.
We will use line XW.
This helping line is called a ______________________ .

10)
Draw a line through point P which is parallel to line EG. Label the angles as you measure them.
(First you will need to draw a transversal through point P, then draw a new angle.)

11)
G
Draw a line through G which is perpendicular to line AB. (First, very lightly sketch that line in to help
you see what you are trying to find.) We do not want you to "guess" or try to line up the protractor
so it seems to be aiming at a right angle. Hint: You will first have to draw a transversal line from G,
and measure an angle, then use the idea of the sum of the angles of a triangle. A sketch will
help. Label everything you measure.

12)
Use your protractor to draw a TANGENT to this circle at point X.
13)
Find the center of this circle and show me you know how to check to see if you are right.

When we are using algebra and formulas, first we ______________the formula, then we
_____________________, and finally we ____________________________.
15)
Find the circumference of a volleyball
if the radius is 4.5".
16)
What is the radius of a round heating
duct that has a circumference of 70 cm?
17)
What is the difference in the diameter of a baseball and a softball if their circumferences are 9.1"
and 12" respectively (in that order)? Show me your awesome algebra skills.

Unit 9 Review
Let's say you work for a company which supplies tin cans to other businesses. The Friday Canning
Company of Oakfield called and ordered 100,000 cans for peas. The cans need to be 4" high and
have a diameter of 3". Your job is to design the can. You will have to figure out the length and
width of the rectangular piece of tin that will be "rolled" up into each can. Assume that the
overlap where the can is joined together will be 1/8". Also, both the top and bottom edge will be
rolled over 1/8" so the edges aren't sharp. With the help of sketches (of the piece of tin and of the
finished can) and formulas, you can do a great job!
a) What are the length ____________ and width ____________ ?
b) If the full order of 100,000 cans were to be made from one roll of tin, how long
would that roll have to be? Express your answer in feet and remaining inches.
__________ ft. and ________ in.
