General Regulations Governing the Recruitment of Applicants for
Master of Arts Programme in Mahayana Buddhism 2011
1. The Faculty: Graduate School of Mahayana Buddhism
2. Academic Distinctions:
1. Ching Chueh Buddhist Sangha University is the Taiwan affiliate of
Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, an educational institution dedicated
to HH King Rama V Chulalongkorn and legally registered and recognized at/by
the Thai Ministry of Education. Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University is
not only one of the best universities in Thailand but also a highly acclaimed and
internationally renowned institute on Buddhist study.
2. Ven. Master Ching Hsin, the rector of Ching Chueh Buddhist Sangha University
and the vice chairman of International Association of Buddhist Universities, has
devoted his whole life to the research of Buddhology and the promotion of
Budddhist education with international and modern perspective.
3. To improve their academic standard as well as to enhance the international
exchange, the postgraduate students will be required and assisted to participate in
foreign and domestic academic conferences.
4. The graduated will be granted MA degree from both Ching Chueh Buddhist
Sangha University and Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University.
5. Focus of study: Mahayana Buddhism. Major language: classical Chinese and
colloquial Chinese. Minor languages: English and Japanese.
6. Equally emphasize on “faith, knowledge, practice, and realization.” Evenly
specialize in “teachings, meditation, thinking, and judgment.”
7. Top teaching faculty, peaceful campus, serene monastic discipline, and practice in
learning.
8. Free tuition fee, miscellaneous expenses, meals, and accommodations. Scholarship
applicable.
3. Curricula:
1. Required Subjects: Mahayana sutras, Mahayana sastras, methodology in
Mahayana Buddhism, English, and meditation.
2. Major Subjects: Mahayana Buddhism in China and India, Mahayana sutras in
English, comparative study of Chinese and Japanese Mahayana sutras, and
Tendai philosophy.
3. Elective Subjects: Buddha Nature, Mahayana sutras in Japanese, the Lotus
Sutra, the three Pure Land Sutras, vijnapti-matrata-vada, Ch’an Buddhism and
Ch’an Sect, Ch’an Sect and Pure Land Sect, and social care in Mahayana
Buddhism.
4. Practices: Meditation, chanting, ritual, daily Buddha puja, and extracurricular
activities such as domestic and overseas visits, summer camp, symposia,
workshops and academic conferences.
4. Qualifications for Application:
1. Monks or nuns who hold at least bachelor degree from accredited university
recognized by the Ministry of Education. Those who are going to graduate by
mid-September, 2010 should provide certificate.
2. Monks or nuns who are graduates or above of a Buddhist college or hold an
equivalent diploma approved by the Enrollment Committee.
5. Duration of Study: 2-4 years

7. Application Procedure and Related Regulations:

2. Application Materials:

One copy of Application Form (available upon request).

Two 2-inch photos taken in the last 3 months (passport-size photo--about 1”x 2” )
●
A photograph of the applicant’s identification card (both sides).

A photocopy of the diploma, certificates, or documents verifying the applicant’s
highest educational degree.

Students to graduate by mid-September 2010: A photocopy of the front and
back sides of the student identification card.

Graduated students: A photocopy of the applicant’s diploma or certificate of
bachelor degree from a university/college.

Graduates of a Buddhist college or equivalent: A photocopy of the applicant’s
graduation certificate or the documents verifying the applicant’s highest
educational degree such as the junior college diploma, Certificate of Study,
Certificate of Non-graduate Attendee, Certificate of Passing the
Senior/Special/Specified Examination or equivalent.

A copy of the record of academic performance issued by university or institution.

A brief curriculum vitae and autobiography (about 600 words) as well as three
copies of the research proposal (Manuscripts should be written/typed horizontally
on A4 paper size.)
Two self-addressed envelope with post stamps for registered mail (Please write
down the name and the address of the recipient on the envelopes with NT$25
postage for sending the entrance examination permit and the result of
examination.)
