Math Weekly plan Amethyst Class Year 2
Week 2
Mental maths. Will work on daily during odd 5 minutes or when lining up etc.
Teacher focus in black bold.
TA in red.
Taught 2 lessons of literacy yesterday so will teach an extra lesson of maths towards the end of
the week.

Continuing on from last week where we added larger numbers using different strategies with money.
Display coins on SB. How can we find out how much money we have? What strategies can we use? Chn to
calculate pounds and pence. Demonstrate how to record using £ and p signs. Explain that we use a decimal
point to separate the £s from the pence. Write £1.25. How much money is this? One pounds and twenty-five
pence. Chn to use coins to make this amount. Show a £5 note and a £10 note. How much are each of these
worth? Change into £ coins. Display different amounts of money for the chn to make and explain how they did
it. How can we write this using a decimal point? Write it on your wbs. Write £3.21. Point to each digit and ask
what it represents. Repeat with other amounts.
