Question One
Read the passage below and answer the questions that follow:
For you to succeed, you must learn how to spend your time constructively. Time is a
very important and scarce resource. If it is wasted, it can never be recoverd. As a
student, you should make sure you have adequate time to revise what you have
covered in class and for additional reading. Do not ignore any subject. You could,
however, allocate more time to your weaker subjects. Set for yourself goals that you
intend to achieve every day and learn to time your activities and to keep time.In order to
make a commitment to yourself, you should make a timetable, which you should try to
follow as strictly as possible.However, if you do not feel like revising a particular subject
for which you have allocated time, you can revise a diffferent subject but remember to
make time for every subject.
a) Identify the following from the passage:

ii) four adjectives

iv) two main verbs
v) two pronouns used as subjects

b) Use appropriate suffixes to form nouns from the following words:

c) Write out the paragraph below inserting the comma, colon, capital letter, apostrophe
and quotation marks where necessary.

There are several reasons why Im in school. First of all my fathers attitude made me
want to succeed in school. one night last year after i had come in at 3am my father said
mickey when I look at my son all I see is a good-for-nothing bum.I was angry but knew
my father was right in a way. I had spent the last two years working at odd jobs at a
pizza parlor .That night though I decided I would prove my father wrong I would go to
college and be a success.

a) Write down any two structures of a verb phrase.

b) Using two examples in each case, discuss two functions of a noun phrase.
