Traveling the Revolutionary Battlefields
Student Activity
Have you ever thought about visiting any of the famous sites of the Revolutionary
War? Imagine that a friend or family member has offered to take you on such a
trip-if you agree to create the itinerary. The only catch is that there will be limited
time for the trip, and your friend or relative is only interested in seeing the places
where the four most important events of the war occurred. You will need to
learn about some of the famous battles and events of the war, decide which four
you think were the most important, and create an itinerary that explains why you
have chosen these four places.
1. Here is a list of just a few of the places associated with the American
Revolution.
Lexington
Fort Ticonderoga
Concord
Saratoga
Boston’s Customs House
Valley Forge
Other locations in
Groton/New London
Boston
Charleston
Philadelphia
Cowpens
Trenton/Princeton
Savannah
Bunker Hill
Yorktown
2. Read about some: Use any books in the room, or the following websites to find out
more about these and other famous battles and events:

3. Chose the four places where you think the most important battles or events of the war
were located. An “important event” in this case means an event that helped to get the
war started or that had a big impact on what happened next in the war.
4. Then write that place and an explanation of why you’ve chose that place in the table.
