Animal Farm Multi-Media Presentation
Directions: Now that we have studied the propaganda of Animal Farm, you will create a multi-media
presentation demonstrating what you have learned about satire and propaganda techniques. This presentation will
be created in either Power Point or Prezi (either is acceptable, but use the one that will best represent your ideas,
or the one with which you are most familiar—your choice will not affect your grade). Your presentation will
include different types of media to represent your understanding. You must include three different types of media
from the following list: clips of films, clips of news reports, images, historical documents, political posters, audio
clips of controversial talk radio, and advertisements of many different varieties. Hint: political ads use MANY of
the propaganda techniques, so you might want to look at ads for current elections. Also, many of the Saturday
Night Live episodes use satire, but many are also PARODY, so be very careful. Many animated sit-coms such as
Family Guy, The Simpsons, and South Park also use satire. If you use clips from any of these shows, they MUST
be school appropriate. You will also have to cite ALL of your clips, images and sources to avoid PLAGERISM.
YOU MAY NOT REUSE ANY OF THE EXAMPLES THAT HAVE BEEN PROVIDED FOR YOU IN
THIS UNIT.
Remember that SATIRE is simply making a mockery of a situation—with a PURPOSE OR SPECIFIC
MESSAGE. It can be funny, but does not have to be. Remember that the difference between SATIRE and
PARODY is that SATIRE USES MOCKERY TO MAKE SPECIFIC POINT AND PARODY SIMPLY
MOCKS. Also remember that propaganda can be used simultaneously.
Your Multi-Media Presentation must include:
** All ten techniques of propaganda used in Animal Farm and a media example / explanation of
each of the following literary elements. These examples can be from current events or past
historical times. At least THREE of the examples must ALSO use satire. The presentation will
have a minimum of 12 slides (includes an introduction slide, the ten types of propaganda, and a
sources cited slide at the end).
1. Name Calling
2. Scapegoat/Common Enemy
3. Repetition
4. Glittering Generalities
5. Plain Folks
6. Bandwagon
7. Card Stacking
8. Fear
9. Assertion
10. Catchy Phrases
Steps that will be taken:
1.) Begin gathering information for your presentation using the planner that is provided below.
You can list several within each box so that, after careful consideration, you can choose the
best one to include in the presentation
2.) Remember, this can be anything (image or video) as long as it is school appropriate and credit
is given where credit is due (your last slide / image should be your “credits”!)
3.) Each example should include: the actual example, identification of what type of propaganda it
is, and a detailed explanation supporting your assertion. Within these details should be the
definition (in your OWN WORDS) of the type of propaganda in the slide, and very specific
references from the example to parallel this definition. Be sure to review the rubric often so
that you know you are including all of the necessary elements.
4.) You should make each example unique, but tie the entire presentation together by using a
particular style, color and/or font theme.
5.) You will share your presentation on the discussion board and be required to watch all other
presentations. You will complete a short evaluation for each presentation after you watch it. (a
link to this form will be provided)
6.) You will complete a” presentation reflection” after you have completed and shared your
presentation.

1.) Now it’s time to gather the information you will need in order to begin creating your presentation. Use the
graphic organizer below to discuss which element will go in which order, which examples you will use, and
how you will label and support them. Extend the table to fit the number of examples you choose to gather
beyond the minimum amount.
