The Genetic Wheel of Fortune

Starting in the center circle of the wheel (right-handed vs. left-handed), place your initials in the space that represents your phenotype for that
trait.
Working in the quadrant of the circle that applies to the phenotype from "handedness", go to the next trait (ear-lobes) and put your initials in the
box that represents your phenotype.
Continue to work out from the center of the wheel choosing phenotypes within the quandrant decided by your phenotype in the previous trait.
Use the same process for each of your parents and your siblings using their initials (or color coding) for each phenotypes.
Phenotypes
o Handededness - What is your dominant hand? Right or Left?
o Earlobe attachment - Are your ear lobes attached to the side of your head, or do they dangle free and unattached?
o Toe length - Is your 2nd toe longer than your big toe?
o Double jointedness - You can test double jointedness by seeing if you can pull your thumb back and touch it to your wrist. If you can,
then you are double jointed!
o Tongue Rolling - Can you roll your tongue from side to side?
When you have finished the wheel Work with your team to come up with an explanation for the pattern of traits inherited by your family and the families of other team members. That is,
why did or didn't you inherit the same pattern on the wheel as one or more of your siblings? (If you don't have any siblings, what would expect the
pattern of inheritance of these traits to be, and why would or wouldn't the pattern between your hypothetical siblings be the same as yours?) Your
explanations should use laws of inheritance and other genetic concepts explored in class. Be sure to define any genetic terms you use in your
explanation.
