BIOLOGY 35 COURSE OUTLINE
Biology 35 will consist of lectures to cover the IBO world curriculum, a significant
amount of time in the course will be dedicated to lab work. All students must present a
complete lab portfolio in order obtain a practical work grade and a predicted grade.
The following topics of the IB syllabus will be covered specifically:
AHL = Advanced Higher Level
Topic 1 and 2: statistical analysis and cells
Topic 3: Genetic biotechnology
Topic 7: (AHL) Nucleic acids and proteins
Topic 8: (AHL) Plant Science
Topic 11 (AHL) Muscles and movement
Option E – (AHL) Neurobiology and Behavior
Option H – (AHL) Further Human Physiology
The other Topics will be reviewed or some modification will occur to meet the IB
curriculum.
The following labs will be performed:
Bacteria and resistance to antibiotics
Gel electrophoresis
Animal Behavior
Animal Response to stimuli
Plants structure and function
Group IV project
If time allows more lab work may be added.
