Vocabulary Recognition Games
BANG!
Decorate a coffee can or shoe box. Write vocabulary words on
small cards. On several cards, write “BANG!” Place all the cards in
the can. Draw a card and say the word. IF you recognize the word,
keep the card. Any words you do not know go back into the can. If
you draw a “BANG”, all the cards go back into the can and you
begin again.
FISHING FUN
Trace and cut fish from constructions paper. Write a vocabulary
word on the fish (or index card) and attach a paper clip. Make a
fishing pole with a magnet attached to the end. Catch a fish and
say the word. The “fish” goes back in the pond if you do not know
the word.
LUCKY COINS
Glue glitter on the top side of bottle caps (plastic or metal). Write a
vocabulary word on the inside. Place face down. Pick a lucky coin,
say the word and keep the coin. Count how much “money” you
collected.
GO FISH
Make word cards with multiple word family words. For example, (pill,
Jill, dill – bake, snake, lake). The object is to match word family pairs.
“Do you have a word with ‘ill’ or do you have a word that rhymes
with dill.”
CONCENTRATION
The same word cards can be used that were made for “GO FISH”.
Ten cards are placed face down. The object is to match word
family pairs by remembering where they are laid.
