AT-WILL VOLUNTEER SERVICE
While your volunteer service is valued by the Health Center, it
may be terminated at any time by you or the Health Center with
or without cause.
ATTENDANCE
You are expected to abide by all MCHC personnel policies,
practices, and work rules the same as regular employees. Each
department has a copy of the policies manual and you should
review it as part of your volunteer orientation.
Good attendance is required. If you are unable to report to work,
you must contact your supervisor before your start time. If
he/she is unavailable, you may leave a message with someone in
the department.
DRESS CODE
You are expected to dress appropriately for the job you are
assigned to perform and present a business-like appearance.
Radical departures from conventional dress standards or personal
grooming are not permitted. Examples are tops that are low cut,
strapless, see-through or expose the midriff; pants that are
tight-fitting and inappropriate for a work setting; skirts that are
too short, fit snugly, or ride up when sitting down; shoes with
high heels that are a safety hazard when walking and slippers are
not allowed.
Good grooming and personal hygiene are also required.
SMOKING POLICY
Smoking is prohibited in any of the Health Center buildings or
under the eaves of the buildings. You may smoke in designated
smoking areas only and if not available on the grounds as far away
from the buildings or patients’ view as possible.
ALCOHOL AND DRUG FREE WORKPLACE POLICY
It is policy to provide patients, employees, volunteers and visitors
with an environment that is free from alcohol and illegal drugs.
As a result, it is prohibited possess, use, distribute or receive
illegal drugs or other controlled substances in the Health Center
buildings, on its grounds.
MCHC reserves the right to test when there is reason to suspect
that someone is under the influence of illegal substances.
WORKPLACE VIOLENCE POLICY
The Health Center will not tolerate verbal or physical intimidation
or threats of violence toward anyone. If you feel that someone’s
actions or words against you or another person is intimidating or
threatening, report it immediately to your supervisor. All
complaints will be investigated promptly. Anyone who is found to
have engaged in intimidation or threat of violence will be subject
to appropriate disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
GENERAL SAFETY RULES
 Report all work injuries immediately to your supervisor, then
obtain medical treatment and file an incident report
describing the cause of the accident.
 Report unsafe conditions to your supervisor.
 Know your work and responsibilities. Familiarize yourself
with safe work practices. Communicate your ideas on better
and safer methods to your supervisor.
 Learn about the Health Center’s program to control
infectious diseases.
 Only use equipment you are trained and authorized to use.
 Do not handle electrical connections with wet hands or when
standing on a damp floor. Report defective cords or other
broken equipment to your supervisor so they can be
repaired or replaced.
 Pick up waste and litter and put them into proper waste
bins. Never reach into a waste bin to remove rubbish.
 Walk – don’t run – to prevent slipping and falling. Use
caution on sidewalks if wet.
 Never engage in horseplay or practical jokes.
 Keep drawers and cabinet doors closed when not in use.
 If you see a wet spot on a floor, report it immediately.
 Never climb on chairs or boxes to reach overhead items.
Ask regular employees for assistance.
 Keep aisles clear at all times. Report unsafe conditions.
 Do not try to lift, push or pull heavy objects by yourself.
 Knowledge of proper body posture and the effects of
physical activities on the body will greatly reduce the
chance of injury.
