The History of the Hotel

De la Ville Roma InterContinental Hotel was created by the Hungarian architect József Vágó, one of the
most important international architects of the first 90’s. The Hotel opened for business in the 1924.
The style of the building is characterized by the elegance of the Neoclassicism Architecture. Each single
stone shows the story and the culture of this charming Hotel.
Did you know that the hotel was originally a private residence?
Vágó designed the entire building starting from an original residence that was later assisted by other
adjacent properties.
The Architect, thanks to an innovating project, managed to combine the past and the future maintaining
some of the peculiar elements of the building.

The beautiful rooms of the InterContinental Hotel welcomed many international and national important
people, such as politicians, economists, directors, actors and artists. Among them, we can remember

Schiffer, Sean Connery, Queen, Mick Jagger, Roberto Benigni, Julia Roberts and many others.

The InterContinental De La Ville is situated just a few steps away from Trinità dei Monti, one of the most
famous place in the world. If you walk down the steps of the staircase, you go to directly to Piazza di
Spagna, a place of international interest.
Just a few minutes from the Hotel you can be in Campo Marzio. The District presents some of the most
famous shops in the city and some of the most famous monuments in the world, such as the Pantheon,
Piazza Venezia, the Ara Pacis , the Theatre of Marcellus, the Portico of Octavia and the Fountain of the
Turtles.

With a short walk, it is possible to go through the most famous roman roads, showing the elegance and
refinement of the Made in Italy. In particular, we are referring to Via Sistina, Via F. Crispi, Via del Corso and
Via Condotti. These streets present some of the most famous fashion brands:Casa Damiani, Gucci, Bulgari.
Each single store is plunged into a special atmosphere; a fine, charming and modern atmosphere but also of

Via Sistina takes its name from Pope Sixtus V (1590) who was actually called Felice Peretti (“Felice” is the
Italian word for “happy”).
Villa Borghese and its events

Villa Borghese, which is at a short distance from the InterContinental, is one of the most famous and largest
park of Rome. Its name comes from the first residence of Cardinal Scipione Borghese.
In the Twentieth Century, it was turned into a museum and now it hosts many masterpieces of authors of
great importance: Caravaggio, Bernini, Canova.
The park presents several historical buildings: the Meridian and its secret gardens, the Bird Cage, the
garden of the Lake.
This marvelous scenery hosts social, sporting events, cultural and artistic activities: musical events,
theatrical performances in the enchanting Globe Theatre, exhibitions of painting, and courses organized for
adults and children too.
