Departing Saturday August 12 for 17 days / 16 nights
Join us on this “Once in a Lifetime” road trip as we travel from the Black Hills to the wonderful State
of Alaska for this fantastic brand new tour. We travel through Montana, Alberta, British Columbia,
Yukon Territory and finally into Alaska. Alaska is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world.
Snow-capped mountain peaks, abundant wildlife, world class fishing, glaciers calving pieces larger
than most houses…the list goes on. All await you on your upcoming Alaska travel experience.
Alaska is truly beyond your dreams...but now within your reach. Your delight if you spot a grizzly bear
with a cub or two in tow will be remembered forever. While you see crystal glaciers, toward the
midnight sun, remember. This is real, this is truly the adventure of a lifetime….this is Alaska.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Rapid City to Bozeman, MT (515 miles)
This morning we embark on a journey that many people dream about but never get round to doing! We’re
headed north to Alaska in the comfort of our brand new Mercedes Sprinter. All you need is your passport,
suitcase, camera and a sense of adventure. Because we’re such a small group, we have the flexibility to stop
whenever we want for pictures, comfort breaks and meal times. Sit back and relax in the comfortable leather
reclining seats, be entertained by the occasional documentary movie or a little comedy… the journey of a
lifetime has just begun.

Day 2: Bozeman, MT to Calgary, AB (530 miles)
After breakfast it’s time to head into Canada, please have your passports handy as we journey to Calgary, AB.

Day 3: Calgary, AB
We take a day to explore this wonderful Canadian City with a morning City Tour and an afternoon at leisure.

Day 4: Calgary – Grande Prairie (463 miles)
Our departure leaves the crowds at home today as we journey north, via Edmonton, stopping at Rochfort
Bridge Trading Post. Rochfort Bridge Trading Post is a restaurant and gift shop located adjacent to Highway 43
just north of the longest wooden train trestle in North America. Continuing on to Grande Prairie, the fastest
growing city in Alberta.

Day 5: Grande Prairie – Fort Nelson (Alaska Highway) (385 Miles)
Today, we continue on to Dawson Creek, we pass through the great northern prairie region of Alberta. While in
Dawson Creek we stop at the Mile ‘O’ Post. Continuing northwest on the historic Alaska Highway we drive
through British Columbia’s picturesque Peace Country with its rich abundance of natural resources of electrical
power, agricultural land, oil, gas and forestry.

Day 6: Ft Nelson, BC – Watson Lake, YT (Alaska Highway) (335 miles)
As we travel to the ‘Gateway to the Yukon’, we enjoy a journey through peaceful valleys and alpine meadows.
Make a brief stop at Liard Hot Springs, Canada’s most spectacular natural hot springs. Following a stop at the
“World Famous Sign Post Forest”, tour the Northern Lights Centre to experience the myths, folklore and
science of the northern lights.

Day 7: Watson Lake, YT – Whitehorse, YT (285 miles)
Today we cross the Nisutlin Bay Bridge in Teslin, YT, it’s the longest bridge along the Alaska Highway. Enjoy
the reflections of the glorious mountain ranges in the crystal clear lakes that dot the area en route to
Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon and a city of character, color and contrasts.

Day 8: Whitehorse, YT
This morning, you are treated to a city tour of Whitehorse, which includes Miles Canyon, the Fish Ladder, the
Transportation Museum and the SS Klondike National Historic Site. You are then welcomed to the Attractions
Canada Award Winner, the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre, for a guided prehistoric journey to the ancient
sub-continent of Beringia. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy the City of Whitehorse. Tonight whoop it up at
the famous Whitehorse Frantic Follies!

Day 9: Whitehorse, YT – Dawson City (330 miles)
Traveling north on the Klondike Highway, we pass Lake Laberge, made famous by Robert Service’s poem,
“The Cremation of Sam McGee”. We stop to view the Carmacks Interpretive River Front Boardwalk and the
beautiful Five Finger Rapids. We see and taste the world’s largest cinnamon bun at Braeburn, before arriving
in Dawson City. This evening visit the infamous Diamond Tooth Gertie’s Gambling Hall.

Day 10: Dawson City
You can’t help but relive the return to the fame and fortune of 1897 on the streets of Dawson City. This
morning you’ll visit an actual Gold Mining Dredge and try panning for gold. The remainder of the afternoon is
yours to enjoy the boardwalk of Dawson City. Tonight view “The Ghosts of Dawson City” at the Garter Girl
Theatre where popular characters of 1898 come to life in a musical comedy.

Day 11: Dawson City – Tok (195 miles)
Today, it is “North to Alaska” as we make our the trek over the “Top of the World Highway”. Stop for lunch at
the tiny town of Chicken and on to Tok, the state’s official sled dog capital.

Day 12: Tok – Fairbanks (210 miles)
You’ll want to have your postcards ready to mail as you stop at North Pole, Alaska and “Santa Claus House”,
before arriving in Fairbanks, the hub city of Alaska’s heartland. Cruise the Chena and Tanana Rivers aboard
the sternwheeler Riverboat Discovery, visiting the Chena Indian Village where native Alaskan guides will take
you on a guided tour of an authentic Athabascan Indian village. We spend this evening at the renowned
Alaskaland (recently renamed Pioneer Park) for a salmon bake dinner followed by a fantastic musical review
based on the rich and colorful history of Alaska at the Palace Theatre and Saloon.

Day 13: Fairbanks – Denali National Park (135 miles)
Incredible vistas rise to meet us on our journey through the town of Nenana to Denali National Park. Have your
camera ready this afternoon as you head deep into the Park, where big game animals abound, on a true
wildlife safari, the “Tundra Wilderness Tour”.

Day 14: Denali National Park – Anchorage (235 miles)
As we head south towards Anchorage, we take in the panoramic views of the famed Alaska Ranges to the
south and North America’s highest peak, Mt. McKinley (weather permitting). We stop at Wasilla and visit the
Iditarod Museum before arriving into Anchorage late afternoon.

Day 15: Anchorage
Today we spend a little time exploring Anchorage before embarking on a cruise on the protected waters of
Portage Glacier. Here we see the sheer, awesome face of a mighty Alaska glacier located just an hour from
Anchorage. As we cruise across Portage Lake on the mv Ptarmigan, we’ll stand just 300 yards from a relic of
the Ice Age and watch for fractures of ice break off the glacier and crash into the water below. Supper tonight
is at the Sourdough Mining Company…great food!

Day 16: Anchorage – Rapid City (Overnight Flight)
After breakfast this morning there is time to explore Anchorage on your own, do a little last minute shopping or
just having a drink at one of the many sidewalk cafes. Then we will head to the airport for our flight home. Our
farewell supper tonight is at the Sourdough Mining Company…great food! Then it’s off to the airport for your
flight home.

The weather in Alaska is normally pleasant at this time of year, but can cool down into the 40s at night, so don't
