The 5 Kingdoms
All living things are made of cells and are divided into five kingdoms:

Moneran Kingdom

Protist Kingdom

Fungi Kingdom

Plant Kingdom

Animal Kingdom
Organisms found in the moneran kingdom are found everywhere in the world and
include bacteria, viruses, and blue-green algae. There are good monerans and bad
monerans. They are microscopic, one-celled organisms and have NO nucleus. They
are able to make their own food or feed off other organisms. They reproduce by
dividing. Good monerans are used to make medicines and cheeses. Bad monerans
cause diseases and destroy good cells.
Organisms found in the protist kingdom are mostly single-celled, have a nucleus,
and found in watery environments or inside other animals as parasites. Some
protists can make their own food while other protists eat food from their
environments. Protists also reproduce by dividing. Examples include amoeba,
paramecium, and euglena.
Organisms found in the fungi kingdom are mostly found in damp, dark forest
environments. They are many- celled and cannot make their own food. They live on
their source of food, and are known as decomposers. They reproduce by spores.
Examples include mushrooms, mold, and yeast.
Organisms in the plant kingdom are many- celled and make their own food with a
process called photosynthesis. The plant kingdom is divided into two groups;
vascular and nonvascular. Vascular plants have internal tubes (xylem) that
transport water and nutrients to other parts of the plant; nonvascular plants do
not. Plants reproduce with seeds or spores. Examples include trees, flowering
plants, and conifers (evergreens).
Organisms found in the animal kingdom are many- celled and cannot make their own
food. They depend on other organisms in their environment as their food source.
They are divided into two groups; vertebrates (with backbones) and invertebrates
(without backbones). Organisms in the animal kingdom reproduce with eggs.
Examples include humans, dogs, cats, lizards, fish, earthworms, and insects.
