Africa Map: Labeling Directions
Directions: Using the map on page 308 (or 343 new book), you will need to
label the countries, major bodies of water and color code the map to show
European Imperialism in Africa.
Step 1: Write “European Imperialism 1913” on top of your map “neatly”
Step 2: Label all countries shown on the map “neatly”
Step 3: Label the following bodies of water “neatly”: Suez Canal, Atlantic
Ocean, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Nile River, Congo River,
Niger River
Step 4: Put a red star and label the event by the approximate location of the
following: Boer War, Where Dr. Livingstone was found by Henry Stanley,
Battle of Adowa
Step 5: Color the countries of Africa according to the political divisions
made by European countries by 1913. Make a key that shows which color
represents each European country (see map key on pg. 308 or 343) Liberia
and Ethiopia should be labeled as independent countries.
