Finding Missing Sides in Right Triangles Notes

Objective: I can find missing sides in right triangles.
We are going to start using sine, cosine, and tangent ratios to find missing sides and missing angles
of ____________ triangles. Let’s do an example and fill in the steps to follow as we work.
Example 1: Find x in the triangle below
1. Identify the given angle and determine/label the sides that
have given numerical values (adjacent, opposite, hypotenuse??).
2. Determine which trig function uses the labeled sides.
3. Write an equation with the given information—replace all knowns angles and sides.
4. Cross multiply and solve for the variable.
5. Use your trig table/calculator to find the sin/cos/tan of given angle and find answer.
