ADVANCED FIRING MODULE
• Cost Effective Upgrades
Preserve existing capital investment
• Zero Downtime Retrofits
Minimize impact on production
• Open Architecture Communications
Pain-free interfacing to existing controls
• Pre-Engineered Solutions
Keep the muscle,
replace the brains
Many times the lowest
cost strategy to upgrade
a machine is to re-use
expensive components
such as motors, SCR power
converters, and bus bars.
By keeping the expensive
"muscle" components and
replacing only the control
equipment “brains," your
Nidec solution will:
• Achieve new system
performance
• Improve machine uptime
• Reduce upgrade downtime
• Lower capital material costs
Guarantee success
Nidec's AFM
The Advanced Firing Module, or AFM is used to control an external, 3 phase, SCR
(thyristor) power stack of an existing DC drive. The AFM is a fully digital controller
that possesses all the functionality of the proven ADDvantage-32 Plus series of DC
drives including a digital motor field supply.
TM
An AFM can be used to replace virtually any manufacturers' DC drive SCR stack
controller.
The ADDvantage-32 Plus family of DC drive retrofit packages can be interfaced
directly to the SCR gates.
Upgrade your existing DC SCR drives to new drive performance with standard,
pre-engineered solutions for most major manufacturers, including:
• General Electric: Silcomatic I and II, Siltrol, Siltron, DC300, DC2000
• Westinghouse: T100, C56, M4, M4CH, M4CL, M5, M5B
• Reliance: S6R, MaxPac, DCS5000, Automax
• Allen-Bradley: 1395, 1397, Stromberg (ABS)
• Siemens: Simoreg, SYDADYN C/D
• Robicon: all models
ADVANCED FIRING MODULE
CHUNK-A-TIZE
Let our experienced engineers develop a plan to phase in or "CHUNKA-TIZE" your machine modernization section by section. Drives can
be modernized during regularly scheduled outages without additional
downtime.
Utilizing the distributed intelligence of the ADDvantage-32TM platform,
new AFM controllers can be installed one at a time. The interface to
your existing controls is maintained as additional sections are added
until the complete machine has been upgraded.
Zero Downtime Installation Process
The downtime, or lost production time, resulting from a normal drive
system installation often exceeds the cost of a new system.

Nidec's retrofit techniques can eliminate installation downtime.
We plan installations around your operations by coordinating with your
team members to minimize downtime. Upgrades are often completed
section-by-section during normally scheduled machine maintenance
without losing a minute of production time.
