heads/arms/legs as needed for each job they do!
Explain Hinduism is oldest religion that is still practised today and it began in
region of north west India now known as Pakistan.
Hindus believe in one God and that their God is everywhere and in everything. He
created the world and everything in it.
Can you think of some of the jobs that God might do? In pairs make a list on
whiteboards. Discuss as a class.
Because he has many different jobs to do Hindus have many different Gods each
showing an aspect of the one God Brahman. These gods may be male or female
and possess all qualities good and bad. Many have extra heads, hands and legs as
a way of showing the power of God.
Powerpoint presentation shows pictures of the different gods
Brahman has three principal forms:
Brahma - the creator
Shiva – who destroys evil
Vishnu – the protector
These three principal gods are known as the Trinity.
There are hundreds of other gods who have particular jobs to do. Show other
examples in powerpoint – Ganesh, Saraswathi and Krishna. The Hindus have many
different stories about their Gods (eg. Rama and Sita – the children know this
story, and tomorrow we are going to hear a story about Ganesh and how he got
his elephant head.)
