Why are there seasons?
• The Earth’s axis tilts 23 1/2 from the
perpendicular to the plane of the ecliptic
and always points toward the North Star.
• The Earth revolves around the Sun.

hotter it gets!

The farther the
angle is from 90º,
the more spread
out the Sun’s
energy is.

• The longer the
path of sunlight
through the
atmosphere, the
greater the
filtration and the
less energy striking
the surface.
