Web Based Project Management: Integrating Business Processes and Clinical Information Management Gregory S. Barnes Nelson STATPROBE Technologies Cary, NC ABSTRACT Project Management is an integrative process involving multiple disciplines and interactions and is found at the core of a well executed clinical trials. Information needs to be communicated on a variety of levels, phone calls logged, meetings scheduled and decisions tracked; documents - created and edited and workflow monitored and conveyed. Because the clinical information management process involves interactions among often widely dispersed individuals and sites, a component-based architecture is needed to ensure the delivery of enterprise level project planning, financial integration, activity tracking and project analysis. In this paper, we will explore the use of the web as a vehicle for handling multi-site communications and document flow in a secure, open and collaborative environment. We will discuss the use of technology, business processes and project management principles as the cornerstone of the clinical information process. Suggestions for the integration of clinical data warehouses, clinical data management, financial and data mining databases will also be discussed in the context of strategic project planning.
