Vomer bone visualization
Turn On > Tap Visible Body Anatomy Atlas > Tap Female or Male > Tap
Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 15. Cranial Fossae > Rotate to view frontal
view of skull > zoom into nasal cavity > rotate slightly to one side > select Vomer >
select Tools (bottom row) > select Hide Others > rotate to sides so you can see
shape of Vomer > select Tools > select Show All
Now make sure Multiple Select is in red letters on upper row > select right and left
Maxillae > select Tools > select Hide Others > rotate so you can see relationship
between Vomer and Maxillae.
Now select Tools > select Show All > select Perpendicular Plate of Ethmoid (superior
and anterior to Vomer) > select Tools > select Hide Others > rotate so you can see
the relationship of the Vomer to the Maxillae to the Ethmoid bone.
Now from the legend below the Virtual Joystick choose Deselect All
Palate visualization (Palatine/Maxilla)
Turn On > Tap Visible Body Anatomy Atlas > Tap Female or Male > Tap
Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 15. Cranial Fossae > Rotate to view frontal
view of skull > zoom so you can see the Maxillae clearly.
Make sure Multiple Select is in red letters on upper row > select both Maxillae >
rotate so you have a posterior view of the highlighted Maxillae > select Palatine bones
(Hint: if you see an “H”. the horizontal line of the “H” are the paired Palatines.
Select Tools > select Hide Others.
Note relationship between Palatines and Maxillae to make up the palate of the mouth.
Cheekbone visualization (Temporal/Palatine)
Turn On > Tap Visible Body Anatomy Atlas > Tap Female or Male > Tap
Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 13. Skull, Anterior View > Rotate to
lateral view of skull.
Make sure Multiple Select is in red letters on upper row > select the bones of the
“cheekbone” (Zygomatic and Temporal bones)

BIOL&241
Note that two bones make up the cheekbone.
Lacrimal bone visualization
Turn On > Tap Visible Body Anatomy Atlas > Tap Female or Male > Tap
Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 13. Skull, Anterior View > Rotate to
view medial corner of orbit.
Make sure Multiple Select is in red letters on upper row > select the Maxilla.
The remaining unselected bone in the medial corner of the orbit is the Lacrimal bone,
select it.
Select Tools > select Hide Others > rotate so you can see the superior view of the
two bones. Note opening to lacrimal duct > rotate to get medial view and note where the
lacrimal duct drains into. Why do you get a runny nose when you cry?
Sinuses visualization
Turn On > Tap Visible Body Anatomy Atlas > Tap Female or Male > Tap
Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 13. Skull, Anterior View
Maxillary
Make sure Multiple Select is in red letters on upper row > select the Maxilla.
Select Tools > select Hide Others > select Fade (legend under Virtual Joystick) >
rotate so you can see medial surface of one maxillary bone and note opening of one
sinus.
Sphenoid
Tap Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 15. Cranial Fossae > Tap on
Sphenoid bone (middle cranial fossa bone; bat shaped).
Select Tools > select Hide Others > select Fade (legend under Virtual Joystick) >
rotate so you can see Sphenoid sinus
Ethmoid
Tap Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 13. Skull, Anterior View > Rotate
to view medial corner of orbit.
Select Ethmoid bone (posterior to Lacrimal; anterior to Sphenoid) > Select Tools >
select Hide Others > select Fade > note Ethmoidal cells.
Frontal
Tap Skeletal Tab (left side column) > Tap 13. Skull, Anterior View
