Noun Jobs
Nouns (and pronouns) wear different hats for different jobs in a sentence. Each
noun or pronoun in a sentence is doing one (and only one) job.
Noun jobs include the following:







Subject (S)
Direct Object (object of the verb) (DO)
Object of the Preposition (o/prep)
Subject Complement (renames the subject) (SC)
Indirect Object (IO)
Object of the Gerund (o/ger)
Object of the Infinitive (o/inf)
Noun jobs are NOT parts of speech. Write the parts of speech below each word. Write the job
above nouns or pronouns in a sentence—nouns wear them like work hats depending on which
job they are doing.
