CAC GER Implementation Subcommittee Meeting Report
October 7, 2015
The subcommittee primarily discussed the Social Sciences bucket.
BOR description: “Courses that fulfill this requirement are broad survey courses which provide the
student with exposure to theory, methods, and data of the social sciences.”
The subcommittee developed the following guidelines:
1. Interpretation of “broadly”
a. Regional focus is fine as long as it meets the other criteria.
b. Subfields are fine as long as there is no pre-requisite other than ENGL 111X.
2. Course descriptions must include all necessary criteria from BOR definition (theory, method, and
data). This may require some revision of course descriptions.
3. Course must be 100 or 200 level.
4. Course must be offered regularly (at least once per year).
Based on these guidelines we started on the list of SS courses and will continue doing so in the October
21 meeting. Guidelines for arts and humanities will be similar, but focused on BOR definition in that
area.
