Tea Caddy
China, Jingdezhen kilns
Qing dynasty, mid Kangxi period, 1683-1700
Porcelain with overglaze enamels
BATEA 1617
The famille verte colour palette, with its predominance
of green enamels, was popular in Europe in the later
seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. This tea
caddy, used to store tea leaves, is an early example of
the type exported from China to Europe, where tea
drinking started to become popular in the eighteenth
century.
