Containment
Containment was a policy followed by the
united states aimed at blocking Soviet
influence and preventing the expansion of
communism
 This policy was initiated under President
Truman

Kennan’s Long Telegram, 1946
Novikov Telegram, 1946
George Kennan was an American expert on the
Soviets who worked at the embassy in Moscow.
 Kennan’s telegram was sent to Washington after
Stalin, in a speech, declared that communism
and capitalism could not exist in the same world.
 Novikov was the Soviet ambassador and sent his
telegram to Moscow after the release of
Kennan’s telegram

