What
• Through the Louisiana Purchase, the Americans
acquired Louisiana from France. Britain attacked
Louisiana in hopes of taking it over, and having strategic
control over the heart of what is now the United States of
America. They failed.
Why
• The Americans and General Andrew Jackson defeated
the British in New Orleans. The battle took place after
the peace treaty had been signed. This was the final
battle of the war of 1812, making this battle arguably one
of the most significant battles in the war of 1812. After
this battle the central United States was at peace. Since
the Americans won, they had control over Louisiana, and
without this victory, the United States would not be the
same as we know it to be today. If they had lost, Britain
would be in control over Louisiana (Modern day Central
U.S.) Possibly expanding Canada’s territory, or acting as
a British colony.
How
• When the Americans won the battle of New
Orleans, the British left North America, having
lost the final battle. This gave more stability to
the United States because they now controlled
all the territory from Mexico to Canada.
