Asher Brown Durand(17961886)
He was a painter and engraver. In the
1830s, he turned increasingly to
painting. At first he did portraits,
but then devoted himself to
landscape. Thomas Cole was a
major source of inspiration, and
Durand's most famous painting,
Kindred Spirits (1849, currently in
the New York Public Library), was
painted as a memorial to him. One
of the founders of the Hudson River
school of landscape painting.

The Vorontsov Palace in Alupka is a masterpiece of
romantic architecture of the mid-18th century. Carved oak
wainscotting, stucco mouldings of ecilings, various
fireplaces, paintings by outstanding artists-all of this
created the unique atmosphere of the interiors of the
Vorontsov Palace.

Chopin's beautiful piano pieces earned him a
reputation as the greatest composer for the piano. His
family was poor and lived in Poland. His mother was

Scotland though he was very ill.
