Planets of the Solar System
The Solar system
Was formed from a solar nebula.
 The solar system was modeled by
Copernicus who said that the solar system
is heliocentric.
 Two other scientists that were interested in
astronomy, named Ptolemy and Aristotle
said the solar system is geocentric

What is heliocentric?
A sun-centered model of the solar system.
The planets revolve around the sun in the
same direction but at different speeds and
distances from the sun.
 What is geocentric? A model of the solar
system where the sun, stars and planets
revolve around Earth.

The solar system
Includes planets which orbit the sun in
ellipses.
 The planets were formed from
protoplanets
 The inner planets are also called
terrestrial planets.
 Inner planets such as the Earth all formed
the layers of: mantle, core and crust
through the process of differentiation.

The planets such as
The outer planets are gas giants.
 Outer planets include Pluto as a 3rd
category even though scientists do not
really know what category to place Pluto
in.
 The gas giants are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus
and Neptune.
