Climate Change Q & A
 What’s going on with the earth? What is
threatening us in the future?
 Climate Change has brought destructive
influences.
 The global warming effect is an accumulated
result and human beings are the contributors.
 To save the earth, everybody should know what
we can do to help cool down the earth.
 Let’s answer the following questions to learn how
we have to face our future.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q1: What causes global warming?
 A: That mankind uses too many fossil fuels has
increased the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs)
into the atmosphere and contributed to rising
global surface temperature and climate change.
Greenhouse gases cause global warming.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q2: How do greenhouse gases affect the earth?
 A: If greenhouse gases emit too much, the earth’s
temperature rises and they cause global warming.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q3: What are greenhouse gases?
 A: They are carbon dioxide (CO2), , methane (CH4),
chlorofluorocarbons (CFCS), nitrous oxide(N2O)
ozone (O3), and so on.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q4:What are these gases?
 A: Carbon dioxide-Due to extensive use of coal, oil,
natural gas and other fossil fuels.
 Chlorofluorocarbons-Such as the use of air
conditioners, refrigerators of Freon, electronic
parts cleaners, aerosol sprays, five extinguishers,
etc.
Climate Change Q & A
 A: Methane-Arise from changes in the process of
fermentation and corruption, mainly from
livestock, rice paddies and landfill emissions.
 Nitrous oxide-Caused by the burning of fossil
fuels, microbial and chemical decomposition of
emissions is expected to take.
 Ozone-From the ground contamination, such as
steam, locomotives, power plants, oil refineries
emit nitrogen oxides, ozone photochemical role.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q6: How does global warming affect the earth?
 A: Due to global warming, climate change brings
the earth destructive disasters. They include
droughts, floods, severe storms, tornadoes,
hurricanes, ice storm, and so on. Climate change
could also increase the frequency and intensity of
typhoons and floods. These disasters make living
things on earth narrow their living region and lack
water and food.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q7:
Because climate change increases the
intensity of typhoons and floods, how did it hit
Taiwan heavily this year?
 A: On August 7-9, Typhoon Morakot brought the
worst flooding in 50 years. Many people died and a
lot of roads were washed away. Agricultural and
fishing losses were great.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q8: Owing to climate change, how is Taiwan
affected by in the future?
 A: Taiwan, a subtropical island, is very vulnerable
to the impacts of climate change. The impacts
could include a rise in the sea level and a lack of
water resources, as well as adverse effects on
primary industries, public health, and ecosystems.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q9: What can people in Taiwan do to help the
earth cool down?
 A: In Taiwan, the government has to fulfill its
duty as a member of the global village. People in
Taiwan also should help to reduce GHG emissions.
We have to conserve energy. By sharing our
common responsibility, we can protect the earth's
environment together and achieve sustainable
development for our future generations.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q: Give two examples of natural disasters in
ecosystem due to climate change.
 A: A particular species of purple-spot butterfly
will migrate to the place at a higher latitude. The
time of animals’ hibernation will be disturbed.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q: Give some examples of natural disasters due to
climate change.
 A: Such as reduction of arable land, widespread
shortage of water, lack of food, economic damage,
desertification, and loss of land.
Climate Change Q & A
 Q: Who should take responsibility for solving the
problems of greenhouse effect?
 A: Everyone should help.
Reflections on Climate Change
 These years, we have been suffering from floods
or drought caused from climate change. Since we
know all these disasters result from what we have
done, we should take responsibility for it and help
solve the problems.
