First Macedonian War (214 – 205 BC) During the Second Punic War, Philip V of Macedon made an alliance with Hannibal, potentially giving Carthage a useful way of resupplying their forces in Italy. The Romans sent a fleet into the Adriatic and made an alliance with Greek states opposed to Philip. This was sufficient to prevent him from aiding Carthage in their war with Rome. Rome defeated Antiochus and pursued all the way back to Syria. Third Macedonian War (172 – 168 BC) Philip’s son Perseus engaging in expansionist behaviour After the failure of diplomacy, Rome goes to war against Perseus. Rome conquers Perseus. Macedonia divided into four independent states (167 BC) In an attempt to prevent further Macedonian aggression splits it into four republics. Fourth Macedonian War (149 BC) Priscus, who claimed to be the son of Perseus, started a rebellion which was quickly suppressed by Rome. They made Macedonia a Roman province. Corinth destroyed (146 BC) * Greek rebellion against Roman control. Rome suppresses rebellion and destroys Corinth to teach the Greeks a lesson.
