Multiply Whole Numbers
Helpful Reminders
 Begin by multiplying the ones place. Regroup if
necessary.
 Multiply the tens place. Add any regrouped
tens. Regroup if necessary.
 Multiply the hundreds. Add any regrouped
hundreds.
 When multiplying by a number that has more
than one digit, remember to put down a zero
placeholder and continue with the steps above.
 When finished multiplying, add to find the
answer.

Divide By One-Digit
Helpful Reminders
 Use basic facts and rounding to decide
where to place the first digit of the
quotient.
 Divide then bring down.
 Write the remainder (if necessary).
 Pay special attention to what you are
doing when there are zeros in the
problem.
 Be careful when saying “divided by” or
“divided into”.
