Greek Mythology By: Blake Meredith Greek Mythology Greece's Flag • Supposedly in the beginning of Greek mythology it began with an elemental force called chaos which unleashed more forces love, earth, and sky. • Then came the titans which were more of humans than anything there was Gaia, and Ouranos. They were the two main titans Starting With Kronos and Rhea • Gaia and Ouranos made Kronos another titan who ended up overthrowing his father and murdering him (what a nice family) • Rhea then went with Kronos to make their children who were Poseidon, Demeter, Hades, Zeus, Hera, and Hestia Kronos the Krazy • In fear since Kronos overthrew his father, he thought his children would do the same so he decided that when they were born he would eat them • However Rhea managed to hide one of the children who was Zeus on the island of Crete • Rhea gave Kronos a rock in baby clothes in attempt to fool him; surprisingly he did fall for it Zeus’s Revenge • After being raised on the island of Crete, Zeus returns to his father and makes him disgorge his brothers and sisters (which I think you know what that means) • He then overthrew his father and punished all of the titans Facts about Zeus and some other Greek Gods • Zeus was most commonly known as the God of Lightning • Obviously his weapon of choice was a lightning bolt • Zeus is also known as the king of all of the gods Poseidon • Poseidon is most known as being the god of the sea • His weapon of choice is often depicted as a trident • There is also a rumor saying that Poseidon has a underwater kingdom called Atlantis Hades • Hades was the god of the underworld (basically god of all the people that died) • Hades is depicted with a scepter and with a 3 headed dog named Cerberus • Hades got his wife which is the queen of his kingdom by abducting her Hermes • Hermes was the messenger of the gods (Greek mailman) • He was depicted wearing sandals and a helmet with wings • He often tricked the gods out of their wits just for fun Hypnos • Not a very known god but Hypnos was the god of sleep • He lived inside a cave in the underworld • Hypnos was depicted always sleeping Aphrodite • Aphrodite was the goddess of love and beauty • She was often symbolized with dolphins and swans • Zeus had Aphrodite marry Hephaestus, who really wasn’t the best good looking of all the gods, but Zeus did this to prevent rivalry upon her Athena • Athena was the goddess of wisdom • She was depicted with and owl which is supposedly a wise creature • The city Athens was named in honor of Athena Greek Family Tree Kronos & Rhea Zeus, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon, Demeter First 12 Letters of the Greek Alphabet Symbol Designation Alpha Beta Gamma Delta Epsilon Zeta Eta Theta Lota Kappa Lambda Mu What Percentage of Greece Still Believes in the Greek Gods?
