Rick Riordan’s Life
Rick Riordan was born on June 5th, 1964 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended
Alamo Heights High School and worked as an editor for the school
newspaper. He won third place in state for writing. For a while he got in
trouble and for making fun of the school and a losing football team in an
underground newspaper he made. He began college at North Texas State
thinking they had the best music program and then decided to transfer to
the University of Texas in Austin Texas. He graduated with a double major
for English and History. He had many childhood influences and the first
book he read that was really influential was “Lord of the Rings”. He has two
sons, Haley and Patrick, his dog Speedy, and three black cats. He’s wrote
many books about Greek mythology (one of his favorite things to learn
about in Middle School) and hopefully he will continue to add more to the
great collection of books.
My Favorite Book:
The Red Pyramid
It’s a book about a brother and a sister going on this
great adventure. After losing their mother they split to
different houses and became almost complete strangers
to each other. One day their dad (Dr. Julius Kane)
accidently set free an Egyptian god while working on an
experiment with his two kids. Carter and Sadie Kane
(The brother and sister) go on this great adventure
trying to save Egyptian gods from waking. Throughout
this great adventure including Egyptian mythology
Carter and Sadie grow closer during their dangerous
mission to try and help the gods.
Why I Like Riordan’s Books
 They are great adventures that always have something new.
 They take place in mythology including gods and all different
cultures.
 The books include so many different unique characters.
